Black is such a timeless colour, used cleverly it becomes the back drop for amazing colour or a more neutral palette. We are working on a renovation at the moment where in the family/media room we have darkened the wall with a very dark grey-black, the walls are paneled in the same colour. We have then trimmed all the woodwork, doors and shutters a vivid white for a striking contrast. The french doors will have white linen sheers with block out when used as a theatre room but also allowing lots of light to enter the room with just sheers. We could use lots of white furniture but the client and I prefer using oak to soften and add warmth to the room. We then add the contrast with the cushions and rugs and perhaps two striking chairs in fabulous fabric as the feature. The main lounges will be upholstered in charcoal with white piping, slip covered for easy care and buttoned at the back in white buttons for a fabulous effect. We are very excited about this room and we cant wait to show the finished product.
The room above is one of my favourites and the inspiration behind our new extension, we are loving lots of green and linen teamed up with this look.
Using mix match chairs is a fun inexpensive way to create a dining setting for your home. Personally I love keeping the side chairs the same and make the feature the wing back chairs, but either way it will look fabulous just depending on your taste and style. I'm working on an interior project at the moment on a stunning old colonial home. The house already has a fabulous India Hicks feel and the home is filled with worldly treasures they have collected. Both are Bird lovers so as you can imagine this job is perfect for me, my inspiration is endless!
This week I will post some shots of the home before renovations begin!
